21 Henkel Volunteers from Germany will work on Habitat for Humanity site to help four families in need to have a decent home
A team of 21 Henkel volunteers will celebrate 1st of May through work to help four low-income families to have a decent home. The volunteers will spend five days on Habitat for Humanity’s site in Cumpăna, Constanţa County, and will work together with the partner families more than 600 hours. With the support of Habitat for Humanity’s specialists, the volunteers will work at the interior and exterior insulation, build the interior walls, plastering, sanding, etc.
One of the houses on which the volunteers will work is the future home of the Halichia family. Nadia (28 years old) and George (28 years old) are struggling to offer their little boy, Alexis (one year old), a decent home to grow and enjoy childhood. The young family is living in one room of only 16 square meters in George’s parents apartment. Despite the fact that Nadia and George are working hard since they were 16 years old, their income is too small to cover their daily expenses and to afford them to buy a home of their own.
Henkel supports families in need of a home in Romania for the fourth consecutive year. In 2015 and 2016, several teams of Henkel volunteers helped build eight homes in Ploieşti and, in 2014, 20 volunteers raised in only five days a home for a mother with five children from Corlăteşti, Prahova County.
Through the project “Building for the future”, developed in partnership with the Cumpăna City Hall, Habitat for Humanity Cumpăna is building 20 homes between 2015 and 2019. Together with international and Romanian volunteers, Habitat for Humanity Romania will finish the construction of the first quadruplex, in which the first four families will move in soon. Two more quadruplexes are in different stanges of construction, and the building of the next two homes will begin in the summer of this year. More than 300 international and Romanian volunteers have worked so far on Habitat for Humanity Cumpăna’s worksite.
