Big Build 2016: The largest accelerated construction and volunteering event ever done in Europe. 800 will build 40 houses in only 5 days
Habitat for Humanity Romania launches Are you coming to Bacau? campaign, which aims to attract volunteers to work in an amazing event, unique in Europe: BIG BUILD 2016. Together with 800 volunteers, the NGO will build 40 homes in 5 days in Bacau, to celebrate World Habitat Day and 40 years of Habitat for Humanity International. BIG BUILD 2016 will become the largest accelerated construction and volunteering event from Europe.
Between the 3rd and 7th of October, 800 volunteers from almost 15 countries (USA, Canada, Germany, Northern Ireland, Slovakia etc.) and from Romanian companies are expected on the site in Bacau to build together with the beneficiary families. Another 1,200 volunteers will work in the pre-event, at setting up the site and pouring the foundations.
In addition to significant financial contributions and products, Kaufland Romania – strategic partner of Habitat for Humanity Romania, together with Dedeman and Holzindustrie Schweighofer will involve employees in the construction of the 40 homes.

Are you coming to Bacau campaign is centered around the idea that BIG BUILD is an unique event, at which everyone must be present, from celebrities to volunteers across the country. On www.habitat.ro/bigbuild volunteers are able to sign up in one of the teams: Prima TV, Europa Fm, Lora, Minuni.ro etc., or they can become leaders themselves. (available only in Romania)

About the BIG BUILD 2016 beneficiary families
The families that will receive the new homes in Bacau need to be in need of a decent place to live, to volunteers a specific number of hours at building their homes and others from the community and to return to Habitat for Humanity Romania the cost of the house at the price of the materials, without profit or interest, in monthly installments, for a period of 20 years. The system of Habitat for Humanity, developed in 70 countries for 40 years now, empowers the beneficiary families and provides funds for the construction and renovation of housing for other disadvantaged families.
Romania – the most worrying statistics on housing in the European Union
Over 5 million Romanian are living in severe poverty, according to Eurobarometer. Of these 1.5 million are children. 41.2% of the population has no access to water or sanitary in the house, while the European average is 3.1%. On the other hand, 58% of Romanian are living in overcrowded housing, while the European average is 17.8%.
