FEATURES

Tithing, ethnic reconciliation, social and professional integration of orphans are some of the special features of past year and the years before.
  • During last years, we have given our tithes to help in Bulgaria and Armenia even though we had a hard time raising needed budgets. From little local resources, we have helped ourselves and tried to stand by this fundamental principle of Habitat. We will thus help build the first Habitat home, an apartment, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
  • The dedication of house #100 in Cluj was a miracle: Mayor Funar, known as anti-Hungarian has attended the event and had wonderful words for Bako Benti, his wife and 5 children, a family of Romanian-Hungarian ethnical background. Love in action united fighting forces under HFH Romania’s project. Hatred lost, love won out!
  • “Memorial Build” is an annual construction event organized in the memory of Mihai Samuila, a Romanian soldier and member of a Habitat family who died on duty in a mission in Afghanistan on 14th of November 2003. This is a special event of great significance to the family and to one or more new Habitat families, as well for the community in general.
  • Last, but not least, the partnership we have started with Good Samaritan Beius, a local charity helping with the social and professional integration of orphans aging 18+ continues. Started in 1998, it allows young adult orphans to learn the trade of becoming a homebuilder. Moreover, these kids learn English, how to use the Internet, the value of discipline and teamwork. Habitat provides a loving and accepting working environment, while Good Samaritan sponsors their one-year full benefits salary. Today, teams formed of graduates can build regular homes by themselves.

2004 Memorial Build
Habitat for Humanity Beius decided that each year, starting with 2004, to build a house dedicated to the memory of Mihai Samuila. The first of these houses was built in Mizies, 1km from Beius for the Dumea family. Lots of people from not only Beius and Mizies worked alongside the Dumea family in building their home.

FOUNDER OF HFHI VISITS ROMANIA, 21-22 June 2003

A milestone in the life of Habitat for Humanity's work in Romania took place at the end of June 2003. Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity International visited Cluj Napoca, Romania to dedicate the 100th Habitat home in Romania, which also represented the 150,000th Habitat home worldwide. A variety of events, ranging from the house dedication to a concert for the youth of Cluj took place at that time.
