“Building Romania Together” early in the morning
The Association Habitat for Humanity Romania and
AmCham – American Chamber of Commerce in Romania, organize on
Wednesday, 10th of May 2006, at 08:00 a.m., at IRIDIUM ballroom of HOWARD JOHNSON hotel in Bucharest, a working breakfast entitled “BUILDING ROMANIA TOGETHER!” With this event, the organizers want to point out the major importance decent living has for all Romanians in the context of Romania’s joining to EU.
“The welfare of more than 150,000 Romanian families living in inhumane conditions or who have no place to live depends on our joint effort: government, local authorities, NGOs and the private sector. Together we can improve the living conditions in the
country”, said Adrian Ciorna, national director of Habitat for Humanity Romania.
Representatives of organizations and companies that supported the association Habitat for Humanity during these 10 years of activity in Romania will attend this event. Among our guests there are Mr. Laszlo Borbely, Minister Delegate for the coordination of public works and territory management, Mrs. Anca Boagiu, Minister of European Integration, and Mrs. Mona Musca, National Liberal Party deputy and Observer in the European Parliament. Other important guests whom we would want to support the cause of families living in poverty housing are Mr. Jonathan Scheele, head of European Commission Delegation in Romania, Mr. Quinton Quayle, Her Majesty’s Ambassador of UK to Romania, and Mr. Nicholas Taubman, USA Ambassador to Romania.
Mr. Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, is visiting Habitat program in Romania and will also be present at this event. Mr. Reckford will speak about the success of Habitat’s partnership with companies such as Whirlpool, Lafarge, General Electric, Ford etc. with whose support more than 200,000 houses have been built for families in need worldwide.
With professional experience ranging from companies such as Marriott, Walt Disney Co. or best Buy Inc. to church ministry, and a global view shaped by living, traveling and doing missions work internationally, Jonathan T.M. Reckford brings to his role as chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity International a well mixed blend of passion for serving those in need and the business skills required to lead a international nonprofit organization that continually earns its supporters’ trust and respect.
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who served as honorary chair of Habitat’s succession planning task force, said, “Jonathan Reckford is a wonderful choice to become Habitat for Humanity’s new chief executive officer. His background in business will help Habitat navigate the economy and business climate, and his pastoral experiences will help him shepherd Habitat’s ministry and assure it continues to share and demonstrate Jesus’ teachings worldwide.
Details regarding a big building event Habitat is preparing in our country will be presented during this working breakfast. This building event is intended to celebrate our country’s joining to EU and is named Blitz Build EuroHabitat 2007. It provides extraordinary opportunities to get involved and it will have a major impact in the lives of the Romanians who are in urgent need of a decent shelter.
